Welcome to our class!

First let me introduce myself.  My name is Jamie L. Brannon, and this is my third year teaching at Truman Middle School.  I am married with two children.  My oldest daughter's name is Brittany and she is a freshman in college.  My youngest daughter's name is Megan and she is a freshman at West Mesa High School.

I graduated from UNM with a bachelors degree in history and education in 2002, and with my masters degree in special education in 2004.  Before I began teaching I was a burn specialist for UNMH for 12 years.  I love teaching!

I want this website to be a way to communicate to both student and parent.  I plan to post homework assignments and due dates, as well as have a bulletin board for comments and questions.

I have an open door policy and hope that if you have problems and concerns you e-mail me at brannon_j@aps.edu.  This tends to be the fastest way to get a hold of me.  Of course, you can always call the school, 836-3030 and leave a message.

Sincerely,

Jamie Brannon

I will be teaching a self-contained multi-grade class this year so I have come up with a plan that I hope will fit the needs of all students.  I think we are going to have a great school year.  So, let's get planning.

Here are examples of the content I might include.
  • Social studies is going to be divided into one four week unit on geography and map reading.  After all, we can't get to where we are going unless we know how to read a map. The additional units will be approximately 10-11 weeks long.
    • Unit 1 Geography
    • Unit 2 Ancient History
    • Unit 3 New Mexico History
    • Unit 4 American History
  • Each Unit will end with a project such as making your own geography game, creating a computer project on a state of your choice, making an ancient newspaper, researching a famous New Mexican, and researching a famous American time period such as the Great Depression, or the Civil Rights movement and presenting it
  • Language Arts For the first nine weeks we will focus on an autobiography as well as doing assignments in basic grammar.
    • The Autobiography is a PowerPoint presentation, which is a computer program which I have found that all of the kids loved using
    • The second nine weeks, we will be making our own iMovie on the computer.  I teach this every year.
    • I also teach word processing and many other computer projects in order to teach the children computer technology that has real life application.  This  year we will also be making our own website just as I have done here.
  • Math  will be done on an individual basis, based on test findings
  • Reading We will be reading approximately four to five novels this year.  I will be giving a pre-reading survey to determine what books everybody has read.
  • Study skills I will be teaching students how to study, remember dates and facts, and become better students in an organized study skills class.

Of course, this is only a framework.  As with all things, this plan is subject to change based on the needs of the class and of the school
